Today we will have a special presentation from Live Different and then in the second class we will be editing our personal essays.
We were supposed to do essay editing today but due to the pep rally, we have a shortened time span so we will take today's class to prepare our final written assignments for marking and complete our review quizzes.
Today we start our review for our unit final on Thursday. You will all be preparing a quiz on google forms in pairs. On your exam will be the following so you can have questions of any of these items:
- vocabulary questions and sentences: similar to the format of our Gambits - questions on factual knowledge from the stories (you need to show an understanding of plot, characters, setting etc) - questions that show your understanding of the terms we've studied AND how they apply to the stories we've studied. - reading comprehension questions on a story you have not read before. - terms matching - you will need to be able to match terms with examples and/or definitions of those terms. We will take these quizzes in class tomorrow. I won't be in class today. You are writing your personal essay in class today. Please make sure that you give yourself time to edit. I will be strict about sentence structure and comma use for mechanics and I will be looking for the use of stylistic choices like similes and metaphors in your writing. You know better and now its time to do better.
If you finish your essay before the end of class, I would like you to make your own quiz on literary terms on google forms. Go back through your notes and determine what terms you need to know and then create your own examples and multiple choice answers. Consider types of conflict, plot terms, point of view, and literary devices when developing your quiz. To find google forms, go to your docs and hit "create", you will get several choices (docs, slides etc.) click on more and then on forms. It will allow you to make a quiz. We will share these with each other on Tuesday. Today we will have our grammar gambit Finale as you will have all your time in class tomorrow to write your personal essay.
We will finish our work on conflict from yesterday and identify the main conflicts in each of the four stories. We will then write a reading comprehension practice located in your google classroom. You will then get into groups and discuss your answers. if time, to finish class today we will be designing a quiz in google forms to give to our friends on our Short Story Unit. Today we will go through what we have already learned and start to prepare our minds for our unit exam which will be next week.
We will finish and submit our essay outlines for our "The trouble with Parents, the Trouble with Kids" personal essays. We will look at types of conflict and then identify the types of conflict in the stories that we have read. Finally, our grammar gambit today is the fifth rule of commas. We will continue with our comma rules this week!
We then do a peer editing exercise on our "Saturday Climbing" responses. We will look for comma errors and sentence structure problems and comment on the clarity of the comparisons discussed. We will then transition into our personal essay writing. We will read through the essay "My body is my own business" and write an outline for it. We will then outline our own essays to be written in class later this week |
