Grammar Gambit day three - homonyms and vocabulary. Today we will look at an analysis of a scene and discuss the qualities of critical writing. Students will complete a written critique of a scene of the "The Crucible". This is in preparation for our film study later in the year.
Grammar Gambit and vocabulary day 2. We will be viewing the film "The Crucible" and discussing film technique.
Grammar Gambit this week is on homonyms...their so grate! (lol). We will finish the crucible today. You should have completed your symbolism charts on the weekend and these are due tomorrow. We'll address questions today. We will also do an irony activity today.
We have our grand finale and last day of commas. We will read to the end of Act III and then discuss the symbolism of the crucible (look this up on line). For each character we will generate a list of first the crucible that they must face in the play and then what part of their character is revealed. For example: Abigail must face the following Crucible: getting caught for transgressions against the church and her unrequited love for John Proctor. She dances, conjures spirits to kill Goody Proctor and then accuses her of murder, drinks chicken's blood, has an affair with John Proctor and accuses others of witchcraft. The character that is revealed is that she is jealous, vindictive, violent, selfish, deceitful, vengeful, and angry. Do this for John Proctor, Elizabeth Proctor, Giles Corey, Mary Warren, Francis Nurse, Thomas Putnam, Reverend Hale, Reverend Danforth and Parris. We will go over these on Monday.
We will only be working on vocabulary today. Journals from yesterday are due. We will try to read all of act III today.
We will complete our comma challenge that we started yesterday. We will finish act II and complete a journal writing assignment on one of the characters from Act II. We will also go over irony and discuss different types of irony and do some practice with this. ![]()
Grammar Gambit - Commas continued. We will finish act II today. Journal writing - Choose a character and write a journal entry from that character's point of view for Act II only. We will discuss effective journal writing.
