We are watching the film "Coach Carter" in class and discussing how the five essential leadership qualities apply to his leadership. At the end of the film, you will be required to write a journal explaining his qualities and characteristics, giving examples of these and showing how they fit into each of the competencies. The assignment is attached below.
Today we will continue to reflect on ourselves and what are our most effective leadership skills. We will divide into groups and look at 5 essential leadership competencies: Model the way, Inspire a Shared Vision, Challenge the process, Enable others to Act, Encourage the Heart.
We will brainstorm qualities that fit into each category using a timed brainstorming activity and then we will view a film looking for these 5 essential leadership competencies and we will add qualities that we may have missed.
We will spend some time looking at how we deal with change. We'll look at the metaphor of what happens when a carrot, an egg, coffee, ice and a rock is placed in boiling water. Each student will write a journal entry afterwards.
We will take a moment to debrief the communication activity from last class and then head to the foods lab to do an experiment with boiling water, an egg, a carrot, a rock, some ice and a coffee bean.
After debriefing this activity, you will all be writing a journal about what you've learned about yourself in the last two activities.
I am away today with students at the Cultural Arts fair in Red Deer. Ms. Wilkie will be covering my class. Today you will be doing a communication activity.
Today we are making posters for the upcoming events at our school. I will be looking at how you work and complete tasks and who well you work with others.
