We will begin by watching a short clip from the film "Patch Adams" and then have a short discussion about paradigms to get our brains back into thinking about our journal topics. We will then take 20 minutes to do our journal writing from last class. Finally, if we have time, we'll start to discuss how knowing ourselves, our beliefs, our values, our strengths and our perceptions can help us be more successful in the world and then look at conflict.
Class will begin with a quick skills and talents checklist. This is a way to remind ourselves of our own tools that we bring with us.
We will then write a journal on our own paradigms. Using the information that we have already brainstormed about ourselves, the information about ourselves from others, the videos we watched about perception, the gifts and talents exercise this morning and the activity we did yesterday on "win all you can", reflect on your own beliefs about yourself and the universe. Really stop to think about who you are, what you want and how you view the world. We will be writing several journals in the coming months. They are all out of 10 and are based on the following: 6/10 - you fulfilled the basic requirement of the assignment, you have about a half a page of writing and you showed general understanding. 8/10 - You show some thought and consideration of the topic, you have a page to a page and a half of writing. 10/10 - You really took the time to consider the topic and you show deep consideration for both your life and those around you. You take the time to share and reflect. You have one page to two pages of writing. If everything is completed we will watch a short video and shifting our ideas about school. Today you will all get back the writing we did last class on the way that others see us. We will then do an activity on paradigms called "Win All You Can"...If we still have time we will do a journal writing exercise.
Today we are moving on and starting to discuss the idea of paradigms. First we're are going to write a quick "How do I see the world? Who am I? How do I treat others" response. Then we will explore the idea "How does the world see me?" - again 5 minutes of free writing. We will then view a dove commercial and finally, we will do a class writing activity about how others view us. If time we will do some personal reflection.
We will be discussing wellness and viewing the film "10 things I hate about you"...we will be referring to this film throughout
After two days of reviewing, today you will write your unit exam for Resource Choices
