Today we will be doing our grammar gambit and our vocabulary work. We will be discussing and editing our stalking stories. To complete class we will be discussing the idea of choices and things we consider when making important decisions. Reading diagnostic will be tomorrow when we have the double class.
So no buses running today. We can't really do the reading exam planned for today at home so instead you have only a few things to do. First, work on your vocabulary for a minute. This is at www.bigiqkids.com. Login is [email protected] and the password is caroline. Secondly, I am commenting on your stories from last week as soon as I'm done with this post. Check in later today and resolve each of my comments (that is make the proper corrections). We will discuss this tomorrow. Not two hours worth of work but it will prevent us from getting too far behind. Enjoy your snow day!!
Today we will be writing our reading diagnostic test in class. If time allows, we will review run-on sentences and work on our new vocabulary words.
The great grammar gambit - weekly finale with vocabulary words!! No vocab today. Go over theme and discuss the message of the short story "The Sea Devil" and review our charts. Peer revision (just for sentence fragments, imagery etc.) of yesterday's writing.
Double class today so we are doing our Great Grammar Gambit on sentence structure and then working on Vocabulary. We are then reviewing our terms: metaphor, personification, simile, imagery and foreshadowing. You should have read the story and done the chart for homework. We will take these up in class tomorrow. We will write our stalking stories today, focusing on imagery and using the above literary devices. Finally we will end class with a discussion about the message of the story "The Sea Devil".
So there are no buses running today. For tomorrow, I need you to finish reading "The Sea Devil". I want you to make sure that you feel comfortable defining the terms foreshadowing, personification, metaphor, simile and imagery. Put a chart into your notes and provide several examples of each (15 in total). You can find definitions of the terms on the terms sheet located in the short stories section of your webpage.
Thanks and see you tomorrow!! Great Grammar Gambit - completing sentence fragments. Vocab continued. Finish reading "The Sea Devil" underlining vocabulary and imagery, discussion on theme, notes on personification, metaphor, simile, imagery, foreshadowing, suspense. Writing - Creating your own "stocking" story.
Grammar Gambit -Sentence Fragments due to subordinating and coordinating conjunctions. Vocab review. Sensory box descriptors and writing activity. Discuss imagery, vocabulary, painting a picture. Read the short story "The Sea Devil"
Today we will be forming our literary teams and running our first Grammar Gambit. As well we will be working on vocabulary and going over the course outline.
