Go over the reading comprehension quiz that we barely completed yesterday.  Finish adding the final brainstorming to our notes on how what we expect from people, may not be what we get from them.  Students need to generate an outline for a literary essay.  Discuss answering the why or how  question in the thesis of the essay.  For example, why shouldn't we judge others based on appearance?   Or How do our judgements of others impact ourselves and our community?  The answer to these questions lead to thoughtful discussions.  If your essay sits in the simple "People judge others" then you never get to the good stuff and your thought and insight mark will always be disappointing to you.  We will  all write thesis statements today.

In the second period we will start work on our projects.  We will work on the essay and this creative project for the rest of the week.  That way we access our critical thinking brains and our creative brains.  Today you will be introduced to the project and we will go over expectations.  you might start researching for the project today.

We will finish watching the film and write a practice reading comprehension quiz.

Today we will be reviewing the final chapter and discussing the main ideas/themes of the text.  We will watch the film To Kill A Mockingbird today.

I won't be at school today.  We will be watching the rest of the film "A Time To Kill" in class and discussing the similarities between the trial on the film and the trial in the book.

Today we will finish reading the novel.

We will finish our newspaper article - these are due tomorrow.  We will read chapter 24.

During the first class today, we will be writing our newspaper articles about the trial.  These should be completed after an hour.  We will read on to Chapter 22.

Finish reading about the trial and if there is time we will start on our newspaper articles

Introduction of newspaper writing format.  We will read an article from the newspaper about the five murdered students in Calgary and identify stylistic characteristics of newspaper writing.  Introduction is short and summarizes the most important aspects of the event, short paragraphs, objective point of view, quotations from witnesses and people involved inserted frequently, conclusion simply tells where the story is going next.

Today we will start class with a quick 20 question comprehension check up.  This is just for me to ensure that we are all following a long and keeping up.  Then we are going to READ!!  Hopefully through the first half of the trial.
