Whew!  It's been a crazy time of year and it's now time to regroup and refocus on academics.  We have to complete our course work prior to Christmas break...And this is only 4 short weeks away!! It is imperative over the next little while to waste no time.  Today we will finishing up our unit exams from yesterday and preparing to write our critical essay on Passion tomorrow.  You have all had a document shared with you.  It is a sample paragraph from an essay at a 40-60% grade and your task is to get it to an 80-100% grade.  We will take these up on Wednesday.

For those of you who have not submitted your personal response for marking, this needs to come in immediately.

Remember to start reading your novels!!

Today we will first be looking at reviewing what will be on your unit exam.  We will take a quick quiz on socrative today and then do an explanation activity where we're moving around the room.  Finally, we will start planning and looking at our personal response assignment which was sent to the ELA 30-1 students and the ELA 30-2 students already have theirs.

Whew!!  After a long break, we have A LOT of work to get done in this short week.

Today we will do our best to get through act II scene iv and all of Act IV.  We need to continue to fill out the two charts that you have in your notes already.  One is looking at the characters' passions and the other is keeping track of the mounting circumstantial evidence against Desdemona. Today we will also examine the impact of jealousy as a ruling passion in the play.  Are there other ruling passions at work as well?  We will look at what jealousy is and where it comes from.  This spawns from a conversation with Emilia where she states: "But jealous souls will not be answer'd so; they are not ever jealous for the cause, but jealous for they are jealous.  'Tis a monster Begot upon itself, born on itself" Act III scene iv lines 155-157).  We will begin a creative response where we explore the idea of passion using any of the visual or written texts.  This builds on the writing we did right at the beginning of this unit. If time we will continue to work on our vocabulary for Act IV.

Today we will be on the computers working on vocabulary for Act III.  Anyone who didn't hand in Act II questions yesterday, needs to hand them in today.  We will then watch Act III on the film.  While we do this we will be filling out the chart on the reasons that Iago gives Othello that Desdemona is having an affair.  This chart is due on Wednesday.

There is a sub in class for these days as I am away with SPEAK students in Calgary.  You will watch ACT II on Monday and then complete the questions that were given out on Friday.

On Tuesday you will start Act III and you are required to do an acting assignment (FUN!!).  This will require you to engage with the text and ask questions about what is happening in your scene and why.
