We will finish reading Act II today and discuss the varying perspectives of the characters. If time we will go over disillusionment and discuss what we think might happen next.
We will begin class by viewing a short piece of film from "Saving Private Ryan". We will discuss how this relates to what Chris has to say about how he feels an obligation to be better because he survived the war. After we will read as far as we can and discuss the concepts of Idealism and Pragmatism and how they relate to the text.
Today we are going to continue reading where we left off (page 18). During tutorial time you need to complete the first column of your character insights chart.
We are jumping right into "All My Sons" today. You will find a character chart in your google classroom. We will read as far as we can go today.
Today we are moving ahead with our perspectives unit. We will be breaking into groups and exploring the concepts from the text in a speed dating sort of fashion. You should be getting your play today
Today we are going to start by playing on membean...a cool vocabulary development site. The free trial only lasts a month but it's pretty cool.
We are then going to have some fun with language. We'll start by each of us writing a simple sentence and then we will exchange papers and build a compound sentence, then a complex compound sentence, then a balanced sentence, then we'll add adjectives and then adverbs and then we'll get our papers back and see what happened!! After this, everyone is going to brainstorm the most relaxing moment they can think of. They will write this down. Then we will all have to think of a metaphor for that moment and write this down. We'll finish class by working on our plans for our writing assignment tomorrow. Today we are going to take a step back and look at the first 4 pieces of text we've studied. You will get your writing assignment in your google classroom and we'll start preparing for that.
As well, we will take some time to look at our final project for this unit. We will look at some samples and discuss the requirements of the visual representation project. We'll start class off by looking at the questions on identities and reviewing our literary terms. I'll show a poor example of answering these questions and then an effective example.
For the last 20 minutes of class we'll change gears. We have yet to get started with any sort of writing and it's time to look at writing a personal response. Your task is in your google classroom. We are going to discuss a little about style, organization etc. and use the three pieces of text we've studied so far as examples to follow. Welcome back to your first full week of school. Your questions on Perspectives (and Bread if you are in 30-1) are due today. We are moving on now and looking at a short story called identities - we will read this in class today and take a look at a couple of videos (see the perspectives unit materials on this web site). I want to take a little about the protests currently going on in the united states and how this is very much a clash of perspectives. If time, we will get started on the questions.
