We begin class everyday with a grammar gambit.  We just finished sentence structure and are moving on to commas.

We are going to then move on to a short story called "Penny in the Dust".

Before reading we will do a quick break out discussion activity on the following topics:

explain a time when they had a misunderstanding with communication.
share about a time when they've been in conflict with their parents.
what they think are the most important qualities in parents.

Then have we will sit and silently read "The Penny in the Dust"  We will use highlighters and remember to use strategies for annotating text and to read the text while identifying literary terms, point of view, character, setting - they can use different colors to highlight their ideas.  There is a quiz in google classroom for you to take on terms.

When we have completed the reading and the quiz, we will get  to work in pairs (both still need to produce the chart) and complete a characterization chart for both the father and Pete.  The assignment is in the google classroom with an example and it is due tomorrow.
