Well, exams are done, essays are done, progress reports are out and it's time to start again. A new unit and a fresh start. A chance to begin again. This week we will be doing a short add on unit - Film Study. Normally, this is completed within the symbolism and allegory unit but as marks were due, I decided to complete the unit and then move on to this film study. Today we will be reviewing film study techniques. It will be awesome to be back together as a whole class!
We will begin class with a think/pair/share activity which will ask you to discuss what makes film study different from a novel study. We will then look at the elements of the film that we are going to be working with and refer back to the work that we did with The Crucible film. Today we will continue with our novel presentations with the ELA 30-1 students and the ELA 30-2 students will watch the film "Of Mice and Men".
Below is a Schedule of classes for the next two weeks Thursday April 23 - 20-1 Chapter presentations, 20-2 work on final project Friday April 24 - 20-1 Finish presentations, 20-2 final project work Monday April 27 - ELA 20-1 - Review of the major concepts of symbolism/Allegory and Archetype. ELA 20-2 novel review, final project work needs to be completed. Tuesday April 28 - ELA 20-1 viewing the LOTF movie, ELA 20-2 review of the novel, reading comprehension novel, Essay preparation Wednesday April 29 - Unit Exam - Part A - Reading Comprehension Thursday April 30 - Career Day / Essay Writing* We'll see if we have time for this. Friday May 1rst -Unit Exam - Part B - Short answer and vocabulary. ELA 20-2 Final Projects are due. Monday May 4th - Marks due to office, progress reports come out. Today we will continue to work without our grammar gambit. 20-1s I have shared my notes for chapter 4 to show you what I am expecting in the way of depth and discussion. You will have both classes today to prepare your presentations which will begin on Monday.
20-2s - we will be reading chapter 4 today and finishing the questions. Today is double up day!! We will finish up from our grammar gambit from Friday...I have donuts today for the winning team!! Then I will spend period one with the 20-1s going over Chapter 4 questions and your chapter presentations. You will have period 2 to work on your chapter presentations. I will spend period 2 with the ELA 20-2s discussing Chapter 3 and reading chapter 4. All questions are due for one, two and three tomorrow.
Today we will once again start with our vocabulary work. There will be a quiz on Friday on the first ten words. Then we will move into day two of balanced sentences.
After we will split into our novel groups. OMAM group will be spending the first half of class finishing their questions and submitting them and then moving on to read chapter 3 together. Our LOTF group needs to hand in their chapter one notes and discuss some of the characters and what they represent. We will then discuss chapter two and look at some of the commentary about decision making, piggy's glasses, the littleuns, the beastie. Hello and Welcome back!! Today we will start class with our updated vocabulary lists and then on to our grammar gambit (after taking a bit of a break!) Today we will focus in on balanced and parallel sentences and try our hand at writing some.
