We will start class off by looking at the poem "Pride" by Marilyn Cay. We will discuss how we approach poetry and write a theme statement for this poem.  We have now completed one week of classes and we have:
*studied non fiction "A New Perspective" and "Bread" and analyzed the                                          format of a personal essay
*studied a short story "Identities" and reviewed our basic short story terms
*written a personal response and reviewed parallel sentence structure
*studied a poem "Pride" and looked at the conventions of poetry
*opened our minds to the concept of perspectives
Whew!!  It's been a packed week and you've done really well.  I am collecting your personal response on perspectives and your questions on "A New Perspective" today.  You are finishing your work with "Identities" and whatever you can't complete becomes homework over the weekend.

We start our play "All My Sons" by Arthur Miller next week.
