Welcome back!!  I hope everyone had a restful break!  I know that it went by so fast for me.  I finished two books over the break...Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince (read it with my daughter...just one left!) and The Book of Negroes.  They were both really good books (entirely different but good...).  I am just starting The Book Thief.

I hope that everyone had a chance to do their own reading over the break...maybe you are coming to the end of Lord of the Flies???  We begin class today with a review of the homonyms that we were working on before the break.  Our goal is to be done our spelling by the end of the week.  We also have a new vocabulary list under the title of "symbolism-allegory" on BigIqKids.com.  We will take the first 20 minutes of class to work on these.  We will then discuss the idea of what being a critical reader is and how we decide what is important as we read.  Everyone will then work on creating a set of notes for chapter one...These are outlined in document "chapter one notes" that can be found in the Symbolism and Allegory section of the site.  If you have not read chapter one, you can read it during class and do the notes for homework.  I'm so sorry but this will mean at least an hour of homework for you if don't get the reading done before the end of the class.
