Class will begin again with a homonym gambit.  No time for vocabulary today as we have a reading quiz.  I will be demonstrating what is required for a reading quiz.  You will all be writing one for a chapter later so it's important to know what you should be looking for.

We will have a discussion about some of the ideas in chapter 2.  In particular:

1. What do you think the Beast is?  Consider the reactions of all the characters.
2. Consider Jack in this chapter.  What characteristics come to light?  Do you think these are positive and helpful in their current situation?
3.Consider Piggy.  How is he treated by the other boys? What does this fact suggest about human nature?
4.What is ironic about consequences of the boys' decision to light a fire? In light of these
consequences, what do you think it and the “drum-roll” represent?

We will look ahead to chapter 3 - What do we do when people don't pull their weight?  How do approach things when some people only want to do certain things and not others?  We will read Chapter 3 together....it's a short one.
