You will be getting a study package for Macbeth which contains all of the extra readings and your assignments, project and essay for this unit. Included are review questions for the end of each act. You will have some time to work on the questions from ACT I today.
Grammar Gambit today - Shakespeare words!! Today we begin the reading of Macbeth. YAY!! We will be dividing roles and reenacting Act I.
During the first class, we are doing some research on Ambition. Each student will put together a word document of poems, quotations and visuals which illustrate thoughts on Ambition. You will be using the blue SMART cards to do some thinking about the topic itself. Once you have have finished this, you need to write a paragraph where you summarize the ideas (whether conflicting or supporting).
In period two, we will start to look at some Shakespearean theory. We will be looking at what a Shakespearean Tragedy is and terms such as tragedy, catharsis, pathos, tragic flaw, hamartia, apostrophe. We will have some fun "chatting" in Shakespeare on our social media! In an effort to really look at what is required to do excellent writing, we will do a peer review exercise. Every student will share their symbolism and allegory essay with another student. I have a peer feedback sheet to guide you through the process of giving effective feedback. After giving feedback, you will also assess a grade based on the marking criteria. For the last 10 minutes you will be given a chance to go over the feedback and make changes to your own essay before submitting for marking. (you will be allowed to make these changes over the course of the evening as well)
